Hi Jeremy,

Yes, there is a detection available. Once the camera is not detected it should give you the warning of the same.

There are actually several different wordings used as:

If Flash is not supported:
"Sorry, you can't use this device to record your video (Flash is required)."

If Flash is not installed:
'To record yourself on video, you need to install Flash. Click here to install.'

Old version of Flash:
'To record yourself on video, you need to update your version of Flash. Click here to update.'

If there is no camera:
"Sorry, we could not detect a camera on your device. Please use a device with a working camera."

If there is no microphone:
"Sorry, we could not detect a microphone on your device. Please use a device with a working microphone."

If camera access is given, camera seems detected however we do not get any data from it:
"Sorry, we cannot see you."

If we get the data from microphone, however does not seem to have any sound:
"Sorry, we cannot hear you.",

We require permission to be given to access camera and mic:
'We need access to your camera and microphone.'

Hope that helps. :)

Bane
